Nashon Esbrand: Football match to raise money for slain father’s funeral

A charity match has been scheduled for October 1 at Market Road

15 September, 2017 — By Emily Finch

FRIENDS of a father stabbed to death in the street are joining forces to play a football match in his memory and to raise funds for his funeral.

Nashon Esbrand, 27, was attacked in Mitchison Road, off Essex Road, just yards from his mother’s house on August 24 – but his friends say they want his legacy to be a positive one.

“He was a funny guy. He was nice, bubbly, always smiley – he was a great guy,” said charity match organiser Ange Doua, 28, who first met Mr Esbrand 12 years ago when they both lived off Caledonian Road.

“He was a Manchester United fan and we would talk about football, work and his cat.”

So far, eight friends have signed up for the match scheduled for October 1 at the Market Road pitches by Caledonian Park, but Ms Doua is hoping for many more to take part.

Players are expected to donate £20 while admission to watch the match will be £5. All money raised will go to Mr Esbrand’s funeral costs.

To take part, contact Ms Doua on 07722 158862. To donate, go to www.gofundme.com/nashonesbrand
