CYCLISTS have welcomed a proposed new route between Finsbury Park and Highbury Fields.
The Town Hall this week launched its consultation for the new “cycleway”, which will run along Horsell Road, Drayton Park, Gillespie Road and Ambler Road.
The main changes would be at Blackstock Road-Ambler Road junction, which will have a pedestrian crossing with “early releases for cyclists and cycle boxes”.
The proposed route
Other proposals include removing the mini-roundabout at the Drayton Park-Aubert Park junction, a “fully protected” cycle lane along stretches of Drayton Park and a “continental-style” roundabout at the Benwell Road-Drayton Park junction.
Chris Kenyon, from campaign group Cycle Islington, said: “We welcome the leap forward these proposals represent. This is about making active travel viable for everyone in the borough.”
Islington environment chief Claudia Webbe said: “Our proposed Cycleway rebalances our roads to create a much better, safer, quieter and more direct cycle route.”
