ARSENAL’S head of football Raul Sanllehi has revealed that Danny Welbeck’s potentially season-ending injury could force the club to delve into the transfer market in January.
Welbeck underwent two operations after suffering a broken ankle in the recent Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon. With his current contract due to expire in the summer it could even be an injury that spells the end of his Gunners’ career.
With that in mind, Sanllehi says that Arsenal may need to do a little shopping.
“That is absolutely something unplanned,” Sanllehi said of Welbeck’s injury. “It makes you consider things. I am not saying that’s a green light to go to the market, we have good players in the house also that may get further opportunities, like Eddie Nketiah for example.
“We need to see. We are in November, so it’s a good time to start analysing what options we have in the market.”
