North Midd’s Hollman hits form

ALL-ROUNDER Luke Hollman put in an eye-catching performance with both bat and ball on Saturday as North Middlesex wrapped up an eight-wicket victory against Hampstead in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Cricket League.

Hampstead elected to bat first at North Midd’s Park Road ground, a decision they might have been regretting after seeing Ed Bird remove their top three batsmen – Callum Jackson (6 runs), Jack Biddulph (1) and Sam Evison (20) – to leave them on 27-3.

Hollman, who lives in Tufnell Park, then took centre stage, as the leg-spinner took five wickets at the expense of just 13 runs in a ruthless 7.4-over spell. Bird and Hollman’s efforts saw the visitors bowled out for just 142 in less than 37 overs.

Hollman, who featured in our sports pages last year when he represented England at the ICC Under-19s World Cup, then picked up the bat to finish the job off. He scored 75 not out off 107 balls, as North Midd hit their winning total of 145-2 within 31 overs.

Hampstead chairman Nick Brown said: “It’s a bad defeat to a good North Middlesex team.

“I still believe that we have a very strong squad of players, but that means nothing if they are injured or not available.”
