A CYCLIST is fighting for her life in hospital after colliding with a cement truck at the Old Street roundabout.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the crash at about 3.30pm.

The cyclist, a woman aged in her 30s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Met Police said enquiries are underway to inform her next of kin. No arrests have been made.

The road is currently closed while emergency services are at the scene.

It is the second serious crash to happen in Islington in just weeks.

Soren Aarlev died in hospital five days after a crash with a car on Goswell Road at the junction with Percival Street. The Town Hall said it is seeking funding to urgently investigate the junction’s safety.

His work colleague at Graphic Alliance, Linford Haggie, described Mr Aarlev as one of their “most popular and talented designers”.

Plans are underway to redesign the Old Street roundabout which would include closing the northwest arm to traffic and creating segregated cycle lanes.

A public consultation finished in early 2015 and the latest update on the Transport for London website states construction work is due to begin later this year.
