Open up visitors’ centre, say prison protesters
17 February, 2017
CAMPAIGNERS will gather at the former Holloway Prison at noon tomorrow (Saturday) to call for the closed visitors’ centre to be opened for community use.
The Parkhurst Road prison closed in 2016 and it will be years before any new development begins on the site.
Chairman of Islington Kill the Housing Act group Andy Bain said: “The centre is a public building on public land. Rather than being left empty until a decision is made about the future of the prison site, it should be opened for community use.”
Gary Heather, of Islington Trades Council, added: “This building is modern and accessible with a large meeting space and decent-sized rooms.”
