A PLUMBER as raised more than £6,000 for Cancer Research by shaving off his hair and beard.
Giuseppe di Tano, a parishioner at St Peter’s Italian Church in Clerkenwell Road, Clerkenwell, wanted to do something as many of his clients and friends have had cancer. He invited about 100 people to a restaurant above the church for the big event, and did the catering himself. The 57-year-old picked up the nickname “Papa Noel” for his illustrious beard.

“A lot of people said not to do it as it suits me, but life is short and it is better to help other people,” he said. “I am hoping to do this again in another four years.” He did a similar thing for Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2013. Originally from Rome, he has lived in London for 36 years.
