Lorry driver is arrested after collision near Moorfields Eye Hospital

POLICE have launched an investigation after a woman died in an accident involving a lorry in City Road on Monday.

The collision occurred at 12.20pm at the junction with Westland Place, near Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Paramedics battled to save the woman, who witnesses said was middle-aged, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not been formally identified last night (Thursday).

Sheyenne Ebbs, 25, who works in a Nando’s restaurant near the accident scene, said: “I don’t think she was that old. My colleague saw the crash. It’s terrible.”

The lorry driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drugs.

He was later released under investigation.
