Hard at work: Helena Farstad and Lynne Friedli
• WELL done to the women in Mayton Road, Holloway, and thanks to Cllr Gary Heather for his support, (Green street! Holloway parking spaces become gardens, July 26). Hopefully more people in other roads will adopt similar projects – less car parking, more greenery.
Car ownership is falling in Islington but there are still people clinging pathetically to their 4×4 cars. One consequence of fewer cars is that some cars are travelling at faster speeds. So green projects are essential to slow them down.
There should be a green project next to every bike shed. And perhaps also bug hotels to encourage insects. Get children involved in this. Before long we will be seeing children playing in the street instead of being indoors.
Meanwhile I urge all green-fingered residents to plant things in the streets and pavements of their neighbourhood. Put pots and plants on the pavement. This will also help to cool the temperature in the current global warming nightmare.
