Highbury Grove pupil Jessica Kappy celebrates her A-level grades
JESSICA Kappy cried and hugged her mum yesterday morning (Thursday) as she received an acceptance letter from Oxford University to study medicine.
The City of London Academy Highbury Grove pupil – who got As in biology, chemistry and maths in her A-levels – is one of a handful of youngsters from low-income backgrounds to receive a Rothschild and Co bursary which will pay for her degree expenses.
The 18-year-old, who lives in Highbury, said: “I was so happy to get my results. It’s been a stressful last six months of school.
“In March we didn’t know what was going to happen, and it was scary considering our futures were in their hands.
“We didn’t have all the information until the last minute about how our results were going to be calculated. Month by month more information came out.”
