A PRIMARY school is celebrating raising £47,000 to help pay for a new playground.
Ashmount School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) handed over the massive cheque in an assembly last week after 18 months of cake sales, discos, film nights, fairs, uniform sales, book sales, non-uniform days, a fun run and even a spa day.
The money will pay for new surfacing in the playground, a huge sandpit, monkey bars, balancing beams and stepping stones.
Lucy Walker-Collins, the school’s deputy headteacher, said: “We are exceptionally grateful, and we are now moving onto our next project which is to raise £13k for a class set of iPads.”
She added: “The children were dressed up for Number Day, so the cheque was a great start for why we need maths in everyday life.”
Helen Lakeland, from the Ashmount PTA, said: “The parent body has responded so generously. Every raffle ticket sold, cake baked and hour spent volunteering at an event goes such a long way.”
