A DAZZLING extravaganza of 325 jazz concerts, events and performances get under way in 70 venues across London as the annual 110-day EFG London Jazz Festival moves into top gear. Performances are being held in the Barbican, Cadogan Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall and Kings Place. Smaller venues include the Con-Cellar Bar, Club Inegales, Jazz Cafe, Green Note, Spice of Life and Union Chapel.

THE Hampstead Arts Festival continues with some excellent concerts. The Verdi Requiem is being performed at Hampstead Parish Church on Saturday evening (November 17). Monday evening, the stunning van Kuijk Quartet is playing Beethoven, Ligeti and Debussy at St John’s Downshire Hill. Tuesday evening, Scottish ensemble Trio HKL is playing with the world’s premier percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie at South Hampstead High School.

A VARIED programme is being played by the Bloomsbury Chamber Orchestra at St Cyprian’s, Marylebone, this Saturday evening (November 17). Weber’s Der Freischütz opens the concert followed by by Brahms’ Double Concerto for violin, cello & orchestra and Nielson’s first symphony.

STRIDE and barrelhouse jazz piano player Tim Penn is at the Green Note Basement this Saturday evening (November 17). He’s one of the most “in-demand” keyboard players on the roots, songwriter and blues scene. Expect to hear echoes of the great New Orleans piano players such as Fats Domino, Professor Longhair and Dr John.
