26 April, 2019 — By Calum Fraser

JUST 11 per cent of crimes committed with a knife in the past year in Islington led to a conviction, according to figures from the Met Police.

The results from a Freedom of Information request made by the Tribune, show that the number of reported knife crime offences has almost doubled in four years from 322 cases in 2014 to 578 in 2018.

There were four murders where a knife was used last year, which is the same as the number of people murdered with a knife in 2015.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics yesterday (Thursday) also showed that the past year was the country’s worst ever year for knife crime.

The government body revealed there had been 14,725 knife crimes in the capital last year with 74 murders.

Across the country, there was an 11 per cent increase in recorded robbery offences but a 3 per cent decrease in burglary offences.
