Slow roadworks ahead

01 February, 2019

• FOR the past three months or so the pavement outside the Marie Curie charity shop at Highbury Corner has been restricted, making it barely wide enough for two people to pass each other.

The reason for this apparently is to construct a protected, 100-metre cycle path between Highbury Place and St Paul’s Road at its junction with Corsica Street. A handwritten notice stated that the work would run from October 15, 2018, to September 3, 2019.

So far all that seems to have been done is to dig out the roadway and lay a few kerbstones. What wonderful progress this is. Is it asking too much for the powers that be to explain in simple, non-technical terms the reason for such slow progress?
