A GROUP of youngsters from Finsbury Park have laid the foundations for their future building careers after completing a Town Hall-backed construction skills course.
The 16 adult learners received the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) – allowing them to apply for construction jobs – at a ceremony at the Muslim Welfare House mosque and community centre on Wednesday.
The course was run by Islington Council and Muslim Welfare House to help unemployed people in Finsbury Park access local job opportunities.
Seven have already found work and Toufik Kacimi, chief executive of the mosque, said opportunities at the nearby City North development might open up for others.
Abdulhakim Hassan, one of the graduates, said: “Opportunities like this are hard to come by. Getting my qualification helped me progress and I’m sure it will do the same for the people who have graduated today. I was glad to be able to share my experience with them.”
