IT’S one in, and one on the way for Tottenham as the clock ticks down on transfer deadline day.
The north Londoners confirmed the arrival of 19-year-old defender Juan Foyth from Argentine side Estudiantes yesterday (Wednesday) on a five-year deal.
The arrival of Serge Aurier is also “imminent” after the Paris Saint-Germain player was granted a work permit enabling him to finalise his move to Spurs after the clubs agreed a fee in the region of £23million for the right-back last week.
Reflecting on his “dream” move, Foyth told Spurs TV: “I really like this club. I’ve always followed it since I was a boy.
“I really like the league, too, and now I’m going to try to make the most of this opportunity. It’s a dream for me.
“Tottenham is a club that believes in young players. I know that many young players are in the team at the moment. I think there’s a wonderful project here.”
Assessing what he will add to Mauricio Pochettino’s team, Foyth added: “I believe my style of play is about bringing the ball out and keeping it on the floor. I like individual duels and players taking me on. I’m also fast so that’s what I think I can bring to the team.”
Meanwhile Arsenal have accepted a bid of £35million from Liverpool for England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Gunners had originally agreed to sell the 24-year-old to London rivals Chelsea for a similar fee, but “the Ox” turned down a move to Stamford Bridge over differing views as to where he would fit into their starting line-up.
The likelihood is that a move to Chelsea would see the player vying with Victor Moses for a role at right wing-back but Oxlade-Chamberlain, who rejected a new contract offer at Arsenal following a lengthy meeting with Arsene Wenger, has repeatedly stated his desire to play as a central midfielder, and believes there is a greater chance of doing so at Liverpool.
The clubs are expected to finalise the deal before the transfer window officially closes at 11pm tonight (Thursday).
Arsenal fans will also be waiting nervously to see what happens regarding Alexis Sanchez’s future at the club.
The Gunners reportedly rejected a £50million offer from Manchester City. However, City are expected to test that resolve further with an improved offer.
There was talk that any deal could see Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling move in the other direction, but City have ruled out letting any of their key players leave.
