There must be a way to improve Clerkenwell Green that works for everyone

29 September, 2017

• I AM a regular customer of Scotti’s Snack Bar on Clerkenwell Green and am horrified by the plan to completely pedestrianise the place.

Businesses like this exist on a knife-edge these days, with business rate rises and overheads. To lose year-round custom from taxi drivers and couriers will spell the end of this and other businesses.

Scotti’s really is special. I have worked in the area for 30 years and have regularly stopped by for a chat and great food. Al, and his mum and dad before him, are a living part of what makes London great.

If you lose Scotti’s, you lose pretty much the last of Clerkenwell’s original Italian establishments and all the stories and history that go with it. For what? Just to get rid of cars and make an area that will be of use for however many sunny lunchtimes we get in the summer?

There must be a better way that works for everyone. Please, please, reconsider this plan to allow passing, motorised trade vital for the survival of local business and culture.
