Transport strategy should be examined in the light of evidence
11 October, 2019
• MARTIN Rutherford’s letter (Think again on the ‘transport strategy’, October 4) perpetuates a number of myths and makes assertions which are not supported by facts.
It is not true that electric cars are pollution-free. In fact they produce as much particulate matter pollution as other vehicles and have comparable lifecycle CO2 emissions.
Nor is it true that cyclists don’t pay for roads. Roads are funded through general taxation to which all earners contribute.
I agree that Islington’s transport strategy needs a lot of improvement. However I would like to see policies based on evidence and not unsubstantiated opinion.
