Tribune on shortlist for ‘Oscar’ at industry awards

Title is a contender for 'newspaper of the year' at Regional Press Awards

12 June, 2020

THE Islington Tribune has been named among the best local titles in the entire UK after being shortlisted for a newspaper of the year award at the industry’s “Oscars”.

Judges of the Regional Press Awards placed the Tribune in the same company as some of the titles produced by big newspaper groups with far bigger budgets.

An award ceremony has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis but organisers, the Society of Editors, said that talent and hard work in the industry should not go unrecognised this year.

It shortlisted both the Tribune and its stablemate, the Camden New Journal, in its free newspaper of the year category.

Richard Osley, the Tribune’s deputy editor, said: “All of the staff at the Tribune remain committed to the task ahead, despite the challenges caused by the coronavirus.

“These are not easy times for the local press, but I’m proud of the way the Trib has continued to be a voice for people who sometimes struggle to be heard: a source of information and debate, and hopefully a few stories to make you smile too.”

Winners will be announced next Friday.
