VACANCY: Camden New Journal group seeks journalist
Full time crime reporter
24 January, 2020
THE Camden New Journal group is looking to hire a full-time news journalist.
The role will be on the Camden New Journal newspaper and website. It will be focussed on crime reporting but the successful applicant will also be required to write general news. At times, they will be required to assist our sister title, the Islington Tribune.
We are not looking for a reporter only interested in the lurid details of crimes or one aiming to use the issue to simply shock readers, however much this may lead to quick web traffic figures. Instead, we are looking for a journalist who can look for the wider stories behind issues such as, for example, knife violence, youth murders and anti-social behaviour.
Applicants should have a working knowledge of our readership areas, a good appreciation of current affairs, online skills, a strong news sense and at least 2+ year experience. The position will be based at our offices in Camden Town.
We are looking for a reporter who is not content with scraping articles from social media and wire copy, and seeks to bring in their own original stories. We value originality above being able to tweet ‘can we use with a credit’ hundreds of times a day.
Being able to interview people with both sensitivity and scrutiny, as required, is a must have skill.
CVs and covering letters with suggestions about what applicants can bring to the role should be sent to the deputy editor Richard Osley, Richard@camdennewjournal.co.uk
Reporters who have recently applied for a position at the Camden New Journal do not need to send a new application.
Salary will be dependant on experience but competitive with local newspaper industry rates.
There is no closing date as we are looking to fill this position as soon as possible, with a start date close on or close to February 24.
This page will be updated when the role has been filled.
