POLICE said it was “unacceptable” that two tyres of a response car were damaged while they were responding to a fire in Archway.
Emergency services were called to the blaze in St John’s Way on Monday afternoon.
Officers parked their car nearby before making sure no one was trapped inside the flat on fire. When they returned to the car, two tyres were “damaged”.
In a tweet, Camden Police said: “While working with London Fire Brigade trying to ensure nobody was inside or injured, two tyres were damaged. The car is now off the road, reducing the emergency policing response we can provide in Camden & Islington. #unacceptable.”
Officers joined four fire engines and 25 firefighters at the maisonette. The first and second floor of a four-storey block were damaged by the fire, which took about 45 minutes to get under control.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been damage to a cable which resulted in ‘arcing’. The police car was back in service by Wednesday.
