Water power solution to problem of canal fumes

26 October, 2018

• IT may be possible to solve the problem of canal fumes using a small tugboat robot with solar or traditional rechargeable batteries that pulls barges from one side of Regent Canal tunnel to the other without the use of a crew on-board, (Eco-moorings zone bid to curb canal fumes, October 19).

Recharging the traditional batteries of a tugboat robot could be done by a hydraulic turbine driven by the same stream of water that flows into the canal without consumption of any type of fossil fuels and any air pollution. Only water power would be used, at zero cost.

The same rechargeable system could be used to supply power to barges at eco-mooring zones close to the tunnel entrance and to supply power to illuminate the inner part of the tunnel when barges are using it.
