We will judge Cllr Ward by his actions and not by his letters of self-praise

11 May, 2018

• SO Diarmaid Ward is now claiming he “has been working with residents of Highbury Quadrant to make sure their concerns are fully investigated”, (Better estate on the way, May 4). Is he joking?

For years, residents have tried to get the council to look into issues like estate maintenance and cleaning, damp and black mould, transparency in service charges and cyclical works.

But the housing department he presides over is not responding to valid and reasonable questions. It is positively obstructive at best if not treating residents with downright contempt.

He turned up to a packed Tenants’ and Residents’ Association meeting more than two years ago, asking us to write down our concerns and promising a response – which to date he has never given. All empty words.

Had it not been for the tireless support from our Green councillor, Caroline Russell, and the Tribune article a week before the election, (Cracks in Highbury Quadrant homes: Can they fix it?, April 26), I am sure we would not have had his promise to work with us.

Residents are no fools. We will judge Cllr Ward by his actions and not by his letters of self-praise in the newspaper. This time, he has to keep his promise.

Highbury Quadrant estate, N5
