Were you evacuated in wartime?

16 June, 2017

• I AM researching the World War II Home Front in my home town of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. This will eventually be published as a local history book.

In 1939, many girls aged around eight from Risinghill Street School in Islington were evacuated to Wisbech. They left a wonderful scrapbook of their memories of evacuation and life so far from their families and homes.

I have, with permission from the local museum, copies of their writings and memories, plus several photographs.

I would like to hear from any of those evacuees still with us, or from their families. The evacuees would now be almost 90 years of age but some may have retold their stories to children or grandchildren.

Names such as Dorothy Harrison, 9, Lilian Adkins, 9, and Mary Wyatt, 8, are included in a list of about 30 girls. I can be contacted at kevin_rodgers@outlook.com
