University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK. It serves a diverse population locally and nationally and has an annual turnover of over £1.1bn. The Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute and specialist clinical services across its seven central London sites. Already a high performing Trust, UCLH aspires to become a world-leading research hospital across all areas of care and treatment.

UCLH is seeking to appoint three non-executive directors to join the Board of Directors. The Board works closely with the Council of Governors, and sets the overall policy and strategic direction for the Trust, approves UCLH’s business plan, and monitors delivery of performance against objectives to ensure the Trust consistently delivers high quality, safe and cost effective clinical services.

Successful candidates will have the confidence to operate at a senior level in a board environment, supported by a record of achievement in their chosen field. Experience of operating in a comparably complex and challenging environment will be important, alongside sound knowledge of corporate governance. Backgrounds could include digital transformation and data analysis, finance and business leadership (with the ability to join the audit committee), health policy, or a relevant track record as a clinician.

Candidates should demonstrate an interest in health care and a commitment to the Trust’s values and the needs of its patients, staff and the local and national communities it serves.

UCLH is committed to equality of opportunity for all and welcomes applications from a diverse range of people. We particularly welcome applications from women, people from the black and minority ethnic communities and disabled people who we know are under-represented in chair and non-executive roles on our board (and on NHS boards generally).

Individuals who are resident within one of London’s 32 boroughs or have been patients of UCLH in the past three years will be eligible for appointment as Non-Executive Director.
